Why Sell to Liberty Coins is
The Gold Standard for Selling Your Coin Collection
Expert Grading and Evaluation You Can Trust
We’re one of the country’s most respected coin authorities. We know what your coins are really worth—not the lowball offers you’ll get at pawn shops.
For over 40 years, we’ve been the grading experts that collectors, estates, and even other dealers trust. We understand the difference between a coin’s metal value and its true numismatic worth, and that difference can mean thousands of dollars in your pocket.
Generous, Fair Offers:
Respecting Collectors
Maximizing Your Return
We make offers that reflect true market value—not outdated price guides or quick melt-weight calculations. That’s why most sellers who shop around come back to us.
Some coins aren’t just worth their weight in gold or silver. A Pre-1933 Saint Gaudens double eagle isn’t just “$4,000 worth of gold.” Depending on its grade and year, it could be worth $4,000, $6,000, or even $15,000 to the right collector. That’s the numismatic premium, and that’s what we pay for.
Fast, Professional,
Safe and Secure Service
Get an evaluation and offer the same day. No games.
Your collection deserves focused attention. We work by appointment to ensure you receive a thorough, private evaluation from our top numismatists. No distractions. No pressure. Just honest expertise and clear explanations.
We’re not offended when you compare offers. In fact, we encourage it. Our reputation is built on being the dealer customers return to after seeing what everyone else offers.

Understanding What Makes Your Coins Valuable
It’s More Than Just Gold and Silver…
Here’s what most people don’t realize: the majority of a collection’s value isn’t visible on the surface. The real value lies in four critical factors that only an experienced numismatist can properly evaluate:
- Metal Content: The Foundation
Gold is gold, and silver is silver. The intrinsic metal value sets the baseline. But for collectible coins, especially pre-1933 U.S. gold, key date silver dollars, and certified rare coins, this is just the beginning. - Rarity: The Mintage Factor
How many were made? How many survive today in collectible condition? A coin minted in limited quantities commands a significant premium. This is where our decades of market knowledge become invaluable. - Condition: The Grade
This is the single most important factor in determining a collectible coin’s value. A Morgan dollar graded MS-63 versus MS-65 can mean a difference of hundreds or even thousands of dollars. At Liberty Coins, our grading skill is unmatched. That’s why collectors, dealers, and estate administrators across the country have trusted us for over 40 years. - Market Demand: Real-Time Intelligence
The coin market moves. What collectors are paying today for specific coins, grades, and series fluctuates based on market trends and auction results. We’re plugged into this market daily, which means our offers reflect current value, not yesterday’s prices.
This is the difference between a superficial evaluation and a professional numismatic appraisal. And it can be worth thousands.

What We Don’t Buy
To help you prepare for your appointment, here’s what we typically don’t purchase:
- Raw or uncertified modern copper-nickel coins (post-1964 U.S. coins with no silver content, including state quarters, sacagawea dollars, presidential dollars)
- Common foreign coins (unless rare or made of precious metals)
- Damaged or heavily worn common-date coins with no numismatic value
- Replica or novelty coins
If any of the above are certified by PCGS, NGC, CAC, or ANACS, please call us and we’ll recommend places that will have more interest in those items.
Not sure if your coins qualify? Bring them anyway. We’re happy to evaluate your collection and explain what has value and what doesn’t. You’ll leave with a better understanding either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions About Selling Your Coin Collection
Is there a fee for the coin appraisal?
Yes. We provide a professional appraisal service for a set fee, which reflects the expert time, resources, and market analysis required to accurately value your collection. In many cases, this fee is credited toward the transaction if you decide to sell your collection to us. Think of it as an investment in knowing exactly what you have, which is worth far more than guessing.
Why is an appointment required?
Your collection deserves our full attention. Appointments ensure a confidential, one-on-one consultation with our top numismatists without interruption. This allows us to thoroughly examine, grade, and research each piece, ensuring you receive the most accurate valuation possible.
How long does the evaluation take?
Most evaluations take 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the size and complexity of your collection. For large estates or extensive collections, usually 4-6 hours, and we may schedule additional time or a follow-up appointment.
Will you make an offer on the spot?
Yes. We’ll give you a fair, generous offer the same day based on our evaluation and current market conditions.
Do I have to sell today or the day I come in?
Absolutely not. There’s no pressure. Take our offer home, think about it, and shop around if you’d like. If you shop around, please come back to us, as the numismatic and bullion market fluctuates. We’re confident in our expertise and our offers. Most people who compare come back to us.
What if I only want to sell part of my collection?
That’s completely fine. We’ll make offers on individual coins, specific series, or the entire collection. It’s entirely your choice.
How do I know I’m getting a fair price?
We base our offers on current market values, real-time auction results, and our deep numismatic expertise. We explain exactly how we arrived at our offer. We also encourage you to shop around, so long as you come back to us. Transparency is part of our reputation.
What if my coins aren’t certified or graded?
That’s completely normal. Most inherited collections aren’t professionally graded. We’ll evaluate them based on our expert assessment and explain their condition and value to you.
Should I clean my coins before bringing them in?
Absolutely not! Please do not clean your coins under any circumstances.
Here’s why: coins develop a natural patina over time that collectors value. Even gentle cleaning with a soft cloth creates microscopic scratches that are visible under magnification, the same magnification we and grading services use. A coin that could grade MS-65 might drop to MS-63 or worse, “uncirculated details: altered surfaces” or “uncirculated details: cleaned” after cleaning, costing you hundreds or thousands of dollars. In some cases, cleaning can make a coin completely unsellable to serious collectors.
Tarnish, toning, and dirt don’t always hurt value, but any cleaning ALWAYS does. Bring them exactly as they are, please.
What types of coins does Liberty Coins specialize in?
Our expertise is in collectible, numismatic U.S. coins, especially pre-1933 gold, certified silver dollars, key date coins, and professionally graded rarities. This is where our 40 years of grading authority and market knowledge deliver the most value. While we can evaluate bullion items, our primary focus is on coins with significant numismatic premiums.
Is it safe to bring valuable coins to your location?
Yes. We have secure facilities, decades of trusted service in Richmond, and a reputation built on integrity. Your safety and the security of your collection are our top priorities.
What forms of payment do you offer?
Cash or check, same day.
What if I don’t know anything about my coins?
That’s exactly why we’re here. We’ll educate you about what you have, explain the factors that determine value, and answer all your questions. You’ll leave our office with a clear understanding of your collection, whether you sell to us or not.
